Repairs

Some temporary repairs may be needed immediately to your home to make it livable in the short term or to minimize further damage to the home. Other repairs may be long term in nature in order to restore the home to its pre-disaster impact condition. Tarpped roofs or “Blue Roofs” are temporary repairs to protect household items from further exposure to the elements.

The following steps should be taken when planning repairs to your disaster damaged home:

  • Take photographs of all damage before repairs.
  • Make temporary repairs to correct safety hazards and minimize further damage. This may include covering holes in the roof, walls or windows, bracing and debris removal.
  • Keep receipts of repairs, since most insurance companies will pay for them.

After assessing damage to your home, contact the Pasco County Building Department (727-847-8100) for information on required building permits. Permits are always required for any kind of demolition or permanent repairs, reconstruction, roofing, filling, and other types of site development.
