Public Assistance
In the wake of a major disaster impacting our area, a federal disaster declaration will most likely be made which triggers these recovery programs into action. Information will be disseminated through the radio and television media, as well as through newspapers, concerning how citizens and businesses can apply for the various forms of individual assistance they may need in their recovery efforts.
Two programs have been established to assist state and local governments, businesses and individuals to recover from the impacts of disasters.
Individual Assistance (IA)
Includes a wide range of programs aimed at assisting individuals and businesses in recovery efforts (but not limited to) Small Business Administration, Disaster Unemployment Assistance, Farm Service Agency, Temporary Housing, Disaster Recovery Centers and Crisis Counseling.
Public Assistance (PA)
Supplements the efforts of state and local governments to return the disaster area to pre-disaster conditions. These efforts primarily address the repair and restoration of public facilities, infrastructure or services which have been damaged or destroyed. Types of Public Assistance include debris removal, emergency protective measures, roads and bridges, water control facilities, buildings and equipment, utilities and parks, recreation facilities and other items.
