Finance Recovery

A disaster can cause significant financial loss. Your home may be severely damaged or destroyed. You may be forced to live in temporary housing, income may be cut off or significantly reduced and important financial records may be destroyed. Many people are at a loss for what to do, when to do it and how to recover. Take the following financial recovery steps after returning home following a natural or other disaster:

  • After determining your home is safe to enter, remove any valuables to a safe place.
  • Notify your insurance company of your loss and get advice about making emergency repairs. If you are unable to live in your home, determine from the insurance company if it will pay for living expenses, such as motel and food. Determine with the insurance company what information and materials you will need to gather to settle your claim.
  • If a Federal Disaster Declaration has been made by the President of the United States for Pasco County as a result of the disaster's impacts on the County, you may be eligible for assistance from FEMA under the Individual Assistance Program.
